Sometimes the idea for a story may start well, but along the way, it can take time to find good sources or even ground, to contextualize the material necessary to make it understandable to readers.
Earlier in the year, I had planned to write a piece on Coke Stevenson, as eloquently described by Robert Caro in the second LBJ series, The Means of Ascent. At the time, it seemed like a historical icon I would've been able to describe in a humble and charismatic manner. A Texas gentleman who taught himself law, was highly respected, amongst other genuine qualities, and understood that public service was meant not to be served for the self-interest of one's own accord but for the public good.
